Yes, the family's last name is correctly spelled Dunwody. The town was misspelled due to a postmaster's error in spelling (or bank deposit slip mistake depending on the story). Either way is was a typo that carried on to the name of the town. Dunwody is also a decedent of the Moore family (notably Gov. James Moore, the first colonial gov of the Carolina's in 1700). The Moore family are descendant from the O'Moore family in Ireland, notable relative: Rory O'More (or Roger) who lead the Irish rebellion of 1641.
