Her disposition says he died leaving a wife and two children as I read it. If he had only one child, it would have read a wife and one child, not the plural children.

The script appears to be “two”, not “no”.

As I understand the census records, if the husband, man of the house, etc., was out of the area working, he would not have been recorded at that household. Perhaps that is why we do not find him.
