In reply to your note on the 17th Arkansas Infantry. In the Compendium Of The Confederate Armies (Volume on Arkansas p.101) the author Stewart Sifakis notes the 17th (Lemoyne's) Infantry Regiment which was organised with eight companies in August 1861, in Yell County. Consolidations led to the unit now of six companies to be merged with the 14th (McCarver's) Infantry Regiment and, designated the 21st Infantry Regiment. As both the 14th (McCarver's)and the 17th(Lemoyne's)were to see service in the Army Of The West, is it perhaps plausable the flag may have originated with them!
