Roger that. Info I've called to your (and Howie's) attention is pretty much the limit of my study of CSN signaling -- i.e., on Southern side, an early "quick and dirty" based on USN, followed by a change.

To return for a moment to the original subject, as I was relaying the info to David Sullivan, because of his work on CS Marines, I wondered -- would the Marines have been entitled to a battleflag -- would they have used an army battleflag -- have you seen evidence of issue of an ANV-pattern battleflag to CSMC or sub-unit, if so, would this be "infantry-size" or other? (I don't want to rule out the possibility that this could have come from a member of Maj. J.F. Milligan's Independent Signal Corps, a battalion-size unit out of Petersburg, rolled in as infantry, to their chagrin, in the outbound column, which, by that time, was pretty much mixed up and might have escaped identity by "captors.")
