Tom and everyone,
Rich Rollins in his book on CS flags at Gettysburg believed the Brown story more than the one that a flag came to Lee and then down the chain to the 32nd NCT. Why them???? Why not some other regiment???
Brown indeed stated that the 32nd NCT used their regular ANV flag as the canton and sewed a whole lot of white cloth found in Carlisle, PA to it to make a Second National. Rollins, if memory serves, found a Union account that saw the flag on the north side of the town on Day One calling it, "the flag with the long white tail."
The MOC holds this ANV flag - sans the whole lot of white now.
Thanks Keith for bringing this up. Good to hear from you again.
