In addition to the London account of the second national of the 32nd NCT being raised at Carlisle there is also the contemporary diary account of Major Campbell Brown of Ewell's staff saying the second national of the 32nd NCT was too small to be impressive so the battle flag of the 32nd NCT was given to a local tailor who sewed it to a large white field. In an email to me dated April 27, 1999 Howard Madus said he believed that this field made second national is War Department #124 in the MOC which was captured by a PA unit at Spotslyvania from a N.C. brigade that included the 32nd NCT.
