The Dale Avengers were made the second company I upon enlistment and reorganization. The Wilcox True Blues became Co. K. They were an infantry regiment. Some of the early companies were schooled as artillery at Ft Barrancas. Those that remained with the regiment continued to serve as artillery when called upon (aka Island Number 10). But they were infantry and for most of the war were used as such.
