Hello,

The flag survives in the hands of Col. Krise's descendants and they sent me a picture of it some years ago. It is a silk First National and is missing the bottom bar. The company probably changed its name either just before or just after Mill Springs which is why it does not show up on Tancig (which is nowhere close to complete anyway) or other sources.

The then captain who received the flag listed in the Athens Post newspaper was soon a private if memory recalls and due to his advanced age (about 60) was detached from the regiment for recruiting duty back home. The author of the modern unit history of the 19th Tennessee did not know about this flag nor the proper company ID either.

Thanks for the 1890s article - I did not have that one.
