Missouri Cavalry Flag captured Dec.28, 1864

Letter of E.M.Riley, 1st Regts. Consolidated Veterans Corps (Col. Ware or Weir) on Mobile & Ohio RR 3 Miles South of Egypt Station. December 28, 1864. Captured Missouri Cav. US Flag and Capt. of that unit by a Missouri, LT. CSA who shot the man's horse with his pistol and he was pinned under his horse.. No names or unit numbers. According to Riley, the Confederate forces about 300 men were so situated in line of battle across the railroad and protected by embankments that they held off cavalry and infantry. Riley stated that there were no mounted federal cavalry when the fight was over not even for a curier. He was the second man to the flag.

any idea of which unit lost its flag. Or the name of Missouri Captain Captured.

I know this is a long shot, but had to try.
