72nd Ohio lost flag at Shiloh

I got a "Google Alert" that the 72nd Ohio lost their flag. I strongly believe this was one of the flags, BG. Cleburne's brigade captured. BG Cleburne's brigade was aligned just like this: 2nd Tenn-24th Tenn-15th Ark-5th Tenn. BG. Cleburne's brigade attacked Colonel Buckland's brigade (48th Ohio, 70th Ohio and 72nd Ohio).

Here is the "Google alert site/article"

Has you can see, certainly the regimental flag was captured. "The flag is in such good shape because it was captured at the beginning of the battle," Card said. Notice the word, "Beginning", BG Cleburne's brigade was the only brigade that hit Colonel Buckland's brigade (In the beginning).

This is another "Google alert site/article" I received on this subject.

This was a outstanding help, I have had to track all Union regiments that BG. Cleburne's brigade faced at Shiloh and list them all and do a process of elimination. That is still difficult neither side wrote who lost flags, or captured flags. With the 72nd Ohio losing their regimental flag I would highly suggest the 2nd Tennessee Infantry regiment and/or the 24th Tennessee Infantry regiment (Both being on the left of BG Cleburne's brigade.) Since the 72nd Ohio was on the right of Colonel Buckland's brigade, it is highly probably the 2nd Tenn/24th Tenn captured that regimental flag.

Well gentlemen, I will keep you informed on fresh news.

Have a safe New Years,

Shawn Prouty
