Re: Flag Taken by the 41st Virginia

That is very interesting because I have the 41st Virginia capturing two flags at the Crater.

1) "Guidon Marked 2" (Turned out to be the 2nd USCT Brigade guidon).

2) "Portion of Staff and Fringe". Unknown Union Regiment.

There are great books on the battle of Crater and have been a huge help on the flags, but there are around 5-6 still unknown.

6th Va--Present and accounted.
16th Va--Four National's unknown.
41st Va--One known and one not known.
61st Va--One National, unknown, Portion of staff and fringe, unknown and ___Reg Infantry, unknown.

General Mahone wrote that his brigade captured 19 flags. So Five Nationals and one __Reg Infantry, are unknown, total 6.

The flags captured by Sander's Alabama brigade, Wright's Georgia brigade, Wise's Virginia brigade and Elliot's South Carolina brigade are all accounted for.

Thank you for the great research and help on this subject!

Have a great morning,

Shawn Prouty
