Dr. Richard Sauers', two book series on 'Advance the Colors" was excellent. A few of those captured flags, I still do not know where or even what time period they were captured. (The 83rd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment) for an example. Did they lose their color during the "Seven Days" battles, or during the "Petersburg Campaign?"

I have found tons of captured Pennsylvania flags. Generally, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Ohio put out the most regiments and therefore lost the most flags. Minnesota, Rhode Island, Kansas, Nebraska, Delaware, Washington DC, would have had very few flags captured. I have found flags captured from all of those states and DC, but very rare to find them.

The 1st Washington DC, Cavalry, I believe lost a guidon or more during Hampton's "Beef Raid" during the Petersburg Campaign.

Just going to take a long time to find more.

Have a good day,
