Thanks for this new link for this flag. I have not seen this version of it before.

The honors are penciled in for the photo hence their clarity. It was once thought that the 2nd Mississippi drew a new flag after losing their's on July 1st at Gettysburg and had honors placed on it. They probably drew something for the rest of the battle - a spare ANV flag or a company flag from their baggage - but these honors were not put on the flag until the August/September, 1863 issue when the flags lost by Heth's Division were replaced. These, and those done for Ed Johnson's Division, bore "Gettysburg" as their last battle honors.

The "James Farm" is probably "Gaine's Farm."
