Re: RETHINK AUGUST 20th!

Ben,

Yes, I sent you the newspaper account about our flag and yes I encouraged you to continue the research on your flag. I also corrected those who keep identifying Rucker's Brigade flag as that of the 7th Alabama Cavalry and those who claim that our flag was the basis for the state flag. I still encourage you to continue your research on your flag and would be interested in seeing verification that it is indeed war time, which it may well be. I have found your theories to be very interesting but I fail to see any firm evidence tying your flag to ours. That being the case my expertise ends . Those familiar with Rucker and his activities are the experts that you should address if you intend to associate this flag with Rucker. I must say though that Greg seems to have cleared up the issue concerning the capture of the flag. As I mentioned when we talked, establishing that the flag is authentic is the first step and you say you have done this. Next is to establish provenance. Is the flag unknown, possibly Rucker's Brigade, probably Rucker's Brigade or definately Rucker's Brigade? Right now, it seems to me that you may have an unknown war time flag. Trace it backwards from the time you acquired it and see what you come up with.
