To answer your question, the entire regiment apparently reported as ordered in September 1864. The OR states that eight companies of the 7th Alabama Cavalry had arrived at Meridian MS by Sept. 29th. I've reviewed individual service files, A-R of this command and find multiple casualties from the Tennessee Campaign in every company. Prior to the end of September 1864, individual companies had indeed been scattered from one side of Mobile Bay to the other.
