Uniform Coat

The following is a link to a photo of Lt Charles Southmayd taken in May of 65 in Vicksburg apparantly on the occasion of being paroled.

I'm not sure what he was doing there as his regiment was in Alexandria at the time. My question has to do with his coat. I know very little about uniforms and was wondering if someone could help me. It seems to be a little unusual with its cut and button arrangement. Was this jacket a standard issue; if so what was it called? If not was it probably custom made? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
