Capt. Poindexter Dunn's company was designated as (old) Co. H, 5th Arkansas Infantry; however, when the regiment was transferred from State service to Confederate service, Dunn's company declined to be sworn into service and was disbanded, and a (new) Co. H was substituted. He organized another company which became Co. E, 18th (Marmaduke's) Arkansas Infantry (soon after redesignated as the 3rd Confederate Infantry).
