I don't believe that there is an "Official" account that mentions either Carlton or Bocage as such by name. However, Carlton was the commander of the Jefferson Guards Militia Company at the time and Bocage was in command of the Southern Guards company. Both were "unofficially" under the command of Major General James Yell of Pine Bluff.

These are the same men that were a part of the taking of the Little Rock Arsenal in Febuary 1861. These two companies had been formed in 1860 following the general raising of Arkansas Militias following John Browns Harpers Ferry Raid. This incident was as much of a responce to the seizing of two artillery piece earlier that were being sent to Pine Bluff for the Pine Bluff Artillery Company. These gun were seized in Ohio during shipment and Newspaper articles, I believe in Cincinnati, gave the details of the court case regarding the ownership of those guns. The courts ruled in favor of Arkansas in 1862, but by that time Arkansas was at War.
