Brown's Battery mystery. . .

Another little mystery to me:

Trying to track a soldier John L. Allen of Co. F, 27th Arkansas Infantry Regiment. On some of his CSR cards it indicates he enlisted at Locust Grove, Searcy Co., Arkansas in May 1862. On other cards it says he transferred from "Brown's Battery" in April 1863.

Perhaps this refers to Gibson's/Brown's Louisiana Artillery Battery (aka Co. A, Artillery Battalion, Miles' Legion). This unit was near Vicksburg in April 1863 and certainly east of the Mississippi in the month's preceeding. I can't seem to find the location of CSR's for this unit.

I'm counting on you, Bryan Howerton and your Searcy County magic. Is this the melding of two men?

Note: Possibility that this is the same John Allen from Company K, 16th Arkansas who was left west of the river in Mar/Apr 1862.
