The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Small booklet on CSS Ponchartrain & Maurepas

Lt. Charles Read reported in his memoirs that two of his guns emplaced at Randolph were shipped to Arkansas, but he does not state which vessel carried them. Lt. Stone of the Polk salvaged two guns, alleged to be 10 in Columbiads from his battery at Randolph against orders. They were taken to the obstructions at Liverpool Landing on the Yazoo and alleged to have been emplaced on a ridge covering the obstructions. Lt. Brown later stated he was shipping two 42-lb guns down to the obstructions to bolster a four-gun batter of field pieces.
