To top it off they sometimes served together. Doc Reyborne's Raiders served as an official escort to Thomas McCray on the Missouri Raid. Doc Rayburn was well liked by General JO Shelby. Doc captured 400 head of horses and mules near Augusta just before the Missouri Raid. This in turn mounted a number of Price's men for the Raid. A ladies contemporary description of Doc is as follows, "Doc Rayburn passed by today on his magnificent horse Limber Jim. Doc's long yellow hair was flowing like a lion's mane". Doc was placed in the Military Prison at Little Rock at war's end as a "banditti". He was released a few months later from failing health and died in late 1865 or early 1866. He was about 23 years of age. He was and is still considered a civil war legend in Arkansas. I would like more information on M. V. Raibon being Milton V. Rayburn and his time spent in central Arkansas. Maybe serving as a guerrilla with or separate from his brother Howel A. (Doc) Rayburn.
