Sam -- When I researched the 33rd Arkansas several years ago, Ely M. Whishunt was one of several soldiers I could not positively identify. This man enlisted in Co. I, 33rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment, at Caddo Gap, Arkansas, on June 24, 1862; age 24. He was dropped from the rolls before October 31, 1862. There is no explanation as to whether his absence was due to death, discharge or desertion.

In researching this company, I found a large number of Wehunt and Whisenant men in Montgomery and Polk counties, where Company I was recruited. The only man who seems to fit is Eli Martin Wehunt of Polk County. So I assume that's him, but cannot state that categorically.

Not much help, but it's all I've got at the moment.
