The Chunky Creek accident occurred February 19, 1863. Samuel H. Medders’ documents indicate he died in a railroad accident February 12, 1863 which includes his father’s claim for the settlement of his accounts.

This list records one soldier of the 35th Mississippi as a casualty. It’s quite possible that his “discharge” certificate incorrectly recorded the date of his death.
