Re: Attn: Doyle -- Poison Springs
In Response To: Attn: Doyle -- Fort Pleasants ()

Hello, I just recently found this site, and am wondering if Doyle or anyone in this group knows about the Battle of Poison Springs?

My gggrandfather Andrew J. MOORE owned property right there in Jefferson Twp Ouchita, Ark. The south east quarter of section twenty two (22) of township no. 13 south of range no 19 west containing 160 ac more or less and lying in the county of Ouachita, Ark

His daughter Fairy Belle Moore told my aunt that there was so much destruction and pilfering, during the war, Fairy remembers they had to plow and plowed up horrible things. I am wondering since this property was right there, if you know if there was a military hospital there.

Andrew and his wife died about the same time 1865ish.. and they were both young 54. I am wondering if they might have died from sickness that was going around. Or were they defending their place, or did they take off with the wagon train to Pine Bluff. All of their children survived.

Sadly for any research the Ouachita Co, ARk courthouse burned in 1875, so there is nada.

Thanks for any tips or leads. Cathy
