Re: Gordon's Cavalry position in summer of 1863

Thanks Bryan, Your answer is what I'd thought I'd hear but just wanted to be sure. The supposed soldier who has Federal POW Records only with Gordon's/Carroll's Cavalry was A. Green Vettitoe. His true spelling was Vittetoe. He appears to have had service with Carter's 1st Tennessee Cavalry and gave Federal authorities false information when he was taken prisoner in Frankfort, Kentucky on August 27, 1863 by claiming to be with Gordon's Cavalry.

This of course created false CMSR's and even the National Park Service listed him as with Gordon's Arkansas Cavalry. I believe it's far more plausible he was with the Tennessee Cavalry as he was born and raised in Grainger County, Tennessee over by Knoxville. While he could have strayed away the lack of Confederate records supporting his existence with Gordon's Cavalry is noted. It further appears that he came clean with his true unit before he died at Camp Chase as noted on his last page of Federal POW Records. His father wrote a letter to the Provost Marshall in Tennessee trying to get his son released at Chase. The letter can be found on miscellaneous located at fold3.

Thanks again for your help.
