1st Battalion AR Union Infantry

In searching for my ancestor and his disappearance from Ind. Co, AR between the 1860 and 1870 census, I found that my gg grandfather William J Prince sided with the union side (Lord help us 7 generation of southern belles just rolled over in their graves!) He joined up (volunteered) with Larken H Prince at Helena, AR and was associated with the District of Eastern AR. These two Prince men were mustered out of Helena, July 20, 1862. They went to Benton Barracks, MO and served until Dec. 31, 1862. Larken died Oct. 26, 1862. My real interest is William who was mustered out in Dec so he survived. Was he sent home since he was a 6 month volunteer or was he sent elsewhere? He and his wife Martha Lamberson Prince are both dead within a short time after this. Did he return home? Were they targets of local loyalists to the southern cause and something bad happened. They had apx. 8 children at home and the 1870 census finds these children living with a 49 yr old woman named Eliza Warren of whom I can find no relation. I am basically a dumb blonde--a southern belle dumb blonde--but still a dumb blonde. I don't even know where to start trying to find out about William's service and he and his wife's death. Can anyone help me? Lisa
