Re: Arkansans in 1st Chickasaw Cavalry

These men of the 1st Chickasaw Cavalry Battalion were not part of the 1st Choctaw & Chickasaw Mtd Rifles. However, Lt. Col. Lemuel M. Reynolds, who commanded the battalion from early 1862 to Oct. 1864 was formerly captain of company E. of the 1st Choctaw & Chickasaw before the formation of this battalion for western service. This little known battalion operated on the frontier from Ft Washita west. Generally, there are no muster rolls in the Indian Territory after June 30, 1863 but this battalion (reorganized Oct. 7, 1864) has a muster roll in Feb. 1865 and a list of white men in the battalion complied in April 1865. Most of the whites in the battalion are from north Texas.
