Lt. Col. F.M. Drake's report of the Battle of Mark's Mill is located in the O.R.'s Series I, Vol 34, part 1, page 712.

I believe it was Major Norris commanding the 43rd Indiana Inf wrote in a post war biograghy of that regiments part of the Battle about the White recruits. The 36th Iowa had been leading the column but had been ordered to the center of the column and the 43rd Indiana had been order to assume the leading position of the column when they ran into the Confederates in front of them according to Norris.

Norris gave an interesting and fairly detailed account of the battle in his book which is rare and had to find.
