I can't quote you a direct source and it depends on what you are talking about, But in the OR's regarding the Battle of Mark's Mill there is a mention of a company of African decent troops which were attached as Pioneer's without arms to Drake's Brigade during that battle. I don't remember which regiment they were from. It may have been the 3rd Arkansas of African decent.

I wasn't really interested I the information at the time so I didn't mark its citation. However this is a part of the story of the Confederates shooting unarmed blacks at that Battle. The Confederates appeared to have done this because these blacks were wearing Uniforms.

A second part of this same story is that there was a company of white civilians from Camden that were accompaning the Union Column at Mark's Mill who reportedly had enlisted to be in the 4th Arkansas US and were going with the column to be mustered in at Pine Bluff. Reportedly these were shot also by the Confederates for being traitors the same as the Blacks in uniform.

However not all of the Blacks appear to have been shot because a couple of them appear on the Prisoner of War rolls of Camp Ford Texas as being captured at Mark's Mill.

I don't know if any of this means beans to you, or if it might give you a lead to the question you posed.
