In Response To: Henry Cathey (Co. A, 8th Ark. Inf.) (Patrick Grant)
Patrick, your John Henry Cathey actually served in Co. K, 30th Arkansas Infantry. This regiment was sometimes known by the alternate designations of 8th Trans-Mississippi Rifles and 8th Arkansas Regiment (but not the "real" 8th Arkansas Infantry, which served east of the Mississippi River).
John Henry Cathey enlisted in Co. K, 30th Arkansas Infantry, at Jacksonport, Arkansas, on August 1, 1862, for three years or the war. He was captured at the Battle of Helena, Arkansas, on July 4, 1863; sent to Alton, Illinois, on July 9, 1863; transferred to Camp Douglas, Illinois, on September 24, 1864; and exchanged at Red River Landing, Louisiana, on May 23, 1865. He was paroled at Jacksonport, Arkansas, on June...
