William M. Chamberlain, Private, Company I, Hawthorn's Regiment, Arkansas Infantry,* enlisted June 19, 1862 at Rockport by Wm. Vantreece for 3 years or the war, died December 7, 1862, killed in Battle Prairie Grove

* This Regiment was successively designated as Johnson's Regiment Arkansas Infantry, Polk's Regiment Arkansas Infantry and Cocke's Regiment, Arkansas Infantry

Notes of Co. I. On the 7 day of Dec. 1862, was engaged in the battle of Prairie Grove. Fifty six Privates and four commissioned officers of which four Privates were killed and twenty four wounded. The Captain and Third Lt. were both killed. The First and Second Lts. were wounded. The whole company behaved well during the entire battle though in the hotest of the fire.
