Re: Organization of 1st Corps T-M Army Jan'y 16th

Thanks for posting Damon. A few of corrections:

"No. 5" should is the 1st Choctaw and Chickasaw Regiment. This was Col. Tandy Walker's and Lt. Col. Simpson Folsom was in temporary command and later colonel of the 2nd Choctaw Regiment.

DeMorse's Regiment was the 29th Texas Cavalry. The 30th was Gurley's Regiment which was still in Texas and not yet assigned to the Indian Territory.

Johnson's Depot was in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, on the south side of the Canadian near present Eufaula OK. This was the storehouse of C.B. Johnson of Johnson & Grimes.

Cooper was charged with drunkenness but the charges were eventually dropped, most likely due to his being indispensable as commander of the Indian troops and supported by the Indian Nations. I'm sure it didn't hurt that he was a friend of Pres. Davis.

I'm going to cross-post your message on the Indian Territory message board.

Thanks
Ken
