In a funeral procession, he was carried through the streets of Little Rock with a honor guard to Mount HollY Cemetery and buried there Thursday, October 9, 1862. His wife Mary S. Nelson purchased the lot on October 8, 1862. He became ill September 27, 1862 and was returned to Huntersville, then transferred to a Little Rock Confederate Hospital where he died on October 7. 1862. With his wife living in Texas and her purchasing the lot on October 8, she must have been sent word early on, that he wouldn't survive his illness. His family never moved his body back to Texas, so he is still buried in Mount Holly Cemetery.
