I've found that his compendium showed my gg grandfather service ended in June 1863, but his actual CSR from the National Archives showed that he was 'Present for duty' August 31, 1863. When Simpson compiled his Compendium I am not sure what source that he used to collect the information, but it does seem that there are some differences between the Information in it and the CSR's and Fold3.
