Re: 33rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment

A large number of men what became the 33rd Arkansas Infantry were recruits (or conscripts) intended for the 12th and 15th (Gee's) Arkansas. One of General Hindman's first priorities was to stop the hemorrhage of men and supplies flowing from Arkansas to the Army of Tennessee. He detained recruits and conscripts, as well as men on furlough, and assigned them to regiments being organized in Arkansas. If you look at the muster rolls of Arkansas regiments east of the Mississippi River, you'll see many notations like -- "absent, detained in Arkansas".
