I have never clearly understood Pearce's roll in the disbanding of state troops following Wilson's Creek. Some sources seen to place the blame almost completely on Pearce, but I believe there is a report from him in the OR that says he tried to persuade the troops to vote to enter Confederate service. Does anyone have the real story?
