Locally in Arkansas County, an election was held in the Mount Adams community (Wilcox Acres) on Feb. 2 to elect officers for a company of cavalry. The election of captain was Logan Fitzhugh, a 39-year-old merchant from Virginia. First, second and third lieutenants, respectively, were Robert H. Crockett, a Mount Adams lawyer and town developer; James T. Allen, a local farmer, also 39 and born in Virginia. Miles McKenzie was from a family of healers and would become prominent in that profession in the next decade. He, like Crockett, was 29 years old and from Tennessee. Alexander Reynolds of DeWitt heralded the title of colonel commandant of Regiment No. 1, of the Militia, State of Arkansas, in Arkansas County. He requested commissions from the Governor to legitimize the authority of the four officers.
