Re: [edit]Arkansas Militia and the War with Mexico

Thanks. I found an excelent unit history at the Butler Center:

ARKANSAS: ARKANSAS VOLUNTEERS OF 1836-1837: HISTORY AND ROSTER OF THE FIRST AND SECOND REGIMENTS OF ARKANSAS MOUNTED GUNMEN 1836-1837 AND A ROSTER OF CAPTAIN JESSE BEAN'S COMPANY OF MOUNTED RANGERS, US ARMY 1832-1833
By James Logan Morgan, ISBN 0-941765-79-2, 81 pages

This book lists company histories for the soldiers in the First Regiment from Conway, Saline, Pope, Hempstead, Pulaski, Sevier, Randolph, Independence, and Lawrence Counties; and the Second Regiment from Washington, Crawford, Johnson, and Scott Counties. (Remember the county boundaries were very different in this time period.) Information about the formation, duties, leaders, and activities of the units is included. Rosters of the men list residence, company, unit, rank, promotions, substitutes, discharge dates and deaths during the enlistment period. Additionally, Captain Bean's roster lists birthplace, enlistment date, and occupation. Originally published 1984 by Morgan Books.
