Hi Bob...

Very good info..So there was a Rayburn connection to the Haley's. Doc's sister Mary C.married the James Haley who was most likely related to his 1st Lt. Thomas F Haley involved with Doc in the incident at Buchanan. Both Captain Neal and his succesor Captain Haley were mortally wounded in the war.Captain Neal was even brought all the way back from Arkansas and buried in Buchanan.

You may have also noticed the ICHEBOD RABURN next to HODGE on the 1820 Haywood Co.,North Carolina Census.

Very seldom do this for a non ancestor but just got curious about DOC. Plus I drive by old Buchanan a lot and have an 1862 letter from there.

Genealogy can be a great resource for uncovering historical information. In addition to finding 6 CSA Grandfathers(and 2 yankees),am also working on two manuscripts of units ancestors served in. Tho time consuming, tracking down descendents of the soldiers of a unit can lead to many startling discoveries and heretofore unknown material..Letters,pictures,stories.battleflags etc..
