Re: Anyone looking for John R. Caswell

Larry, Private John R. Caswell was born 07 Feb 1835 in Heard County, Georgia, son of Isham and Sarah (Shepard) Caswell. He married in 1851 in Heard County to Elizabeth McDuffie, parents unknown. John acquired a land patent in Columbia County, Arkansas, on 01 Sep 1860, and enlisted with his brothers, Benjamin and Isham, in Company G, 33rd Arkansas Infantry in Columbia County on 19 Jun 1862. He was present with the regiment through February 1864. John eventually settled in Webster Parish, Louisiana, where he was a farmer. He died 07 Mar 1907, burial in Shongaloo Cemetery, Webster Parish.

Note: For anyone researching this soldier, his birth and death dates are mistakenly attributed to his brother, Isham, on the Find-A-Grave site. Isham’s grave is also in Shongaloo Cemetery. Isham was born 15 Mar 1843 and died after 1920. His appearance in the 1900 Census for Mississippi TWP, Columbia County, Arkansas, born March 1843, supports this. He also appears in 1920 Census for Police Jury Ward 1, Webster Parish, Louisiana.
