Re: Asa A. Morgan 1st & 26th Ark Inf

Alan, I only have snippets of the letters on cards, but I did find one interesting reference to McRae. This was written as Morgan’s regiment was preparing to march to Fort Smith in accordance to being assigned to Cabell:

May 19, 1863, Camp Anderson

I regret leaving some of my friends in this brigade. I know no one of whom I am fonder than Colonel (illegible) and I like Colonel Hart very much, but I have neither respect nor like for McRae – am glad I leave him and his Adjt. McConaughey is the most disagreeable person I ever saw – so much so that Glen, Hart, (illegible) and myself sent to McRae a few days ago a formal protest, stating we would not longer submit to his impudence.
