Dr. Massey, he was indeed formerly a member of the 17th (Griffith's) Arkansas Infantry. He enlisted as third lieutenant in Co. C, 17th (Griffith's) Arkansas Infantry, at Fort Smith, Arkansas, on November 12, 1861, for twelve months; age 22, born in Virginia, occupation printer. He was not reelected in the regimental reorganization on May 16, 1862, and resigned on June 11, 1862. I can find no further record of him until he shows up on a muster roll as the adjutant of the 1st/10th Arkansas Cavalry in February 1864, and then nothing more after that date.

After the war he was the owner of the "Pine Bluff Commercial" newspaper. He died in 1911 at Pine Bluff.
