Yes, there are many records which refer to Hardy's Regimant as the 19th and 24th Arkansas Consolidated. Even as late as Jenkin's Ferry Hardy's Regiment was Officially listed as the 19th and 24th in the O.R.'s. Naturally this leads to somee confusions as you are well aware.

East of the Mississippi I believe that part of Dawson's 19th was consolidated with the 8th Arkansas at least for a time.

I am beginning to wonder here why there were so many men in the 19th Arkansas in January 1863? I was thinking that the 428 men that became part of Hardy's regiment were excapee's from Arkansas Post. But I don't see how that many excaped.

Then possible were they part of the Fort's Garrison that maybe surrendered to the Navy and were paroled? That still may be a possibility. But if that is so which Merrill Pence's statement that over 650 were sent to northern prisons, those two figures place the regimental strenght at close to 1,100 men.

That was a VERY large Regiment for that time. Especially when you consider that the 19th had been ordered to reorganize at White Sulphur Spring as 10 companies of 75 men and elect new officers and detach it's "Extra Company", along with the extra companies of the 33rd Arkansas, to help form the 24th Arkansas. Add to this the number of men who enlisted and died in the Hospiatl at Sulphur Springs before they even are added to any muster rolls of the 19th, or the 24th.

I am beginning to wonder IF Col. Dawson, while being sick and absent from Arkansas Post, wasn't trying to organize the sick who were returning from furloughs and such into another battalion or regiment at Sulphur Springs. Certainly Dawson chaffed at being jumped over in being in command of Fort Hindman, by a Lieutenant of the navy, in Dunnington's promotion to colonel to rank over him.
