My ggggrandfather George W. Kise fought in all the major battles in the American-Mexican serving in the US Regular Infantry. His experience in how he got involved in the Civil War has a very exciting beginning. I am searching for some firm Confederate documentation to confirm the following story. This story is as told by his son. During the Civil War George W. Kise served in the 2nd Kansas Cavalry, Companies A and B. Now for the story: "George W. Kise was always interested in the State Militia and when the Civil War broke out he was importuned to organize a company and drill them for service in the Southern cause, but being a Northern sympathizer he refused, and was threatened with death unless he complied. He then ran away and hid in a swamp for two weeks before he was captured and taken back. Finally he organized a company and drilled the and, gaining the confidence of the men, induced them to to join him in makeing their escape to join the Northern army. Under cover of darkness they built a raft and the entire company embarked and floated down the river and soon were inside the lines of the Federal army. They were assigned to the Secxond Kansas Cavalry and Mr. Kise was made First Lieutenant and served with distinction during the war. Afterward he was honorably discharged and returned to Springfield, Mo."

I have never found a record of Mr. Kise being a first lieutenant; he was a private. I am thinking that he was in Sebastian County, Arkansas when the Confederates caught him and not in Springfield, Mo. Mr Kise spent his time in the Civil war in the southwester quarter of Arkansas. Mr. Kise is buried in the Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, MO. I am searching for any Confederate record that would put Mr.Kise in their army training a company of men. Can anyone help me with this?
