It was a tragic event, however, Gen. Jackson was hit by three bullets, that would have to be shot by three different individuals. He was 30 + yards from the rifleman, in the darkness, somewhat after 9 PM.

Seems to me these fellows had no idea who was in their cross hairs and only surmised it could have been Jackson much later.

None the less, I cannot find a reference to a William A. Dudley in the literature to be the culprit. Believe he was a Private in Company G, 4th Virginia Infantry.

Believe I would have remained mum had I been the shooter.

Believe there's a frequent contributor to these boards who lives nearby Cleveland in Decatur.
