Father Herman & Col. Kelly

We omitted last week to notice the arrival in our town of Father Herman, of Tuscumbia, who was here on a visit to Col. T. Kelly and family. Father Herman, though a Catholic Priest, has fought through several bloody wars both in this and the old world. He made a brave Confederate soldier, and his body is now scared [sic] all over with honored wounds. We spent an hour very pleasantly with him, and his great mind expanded as he related his early experience. Noble old hero, may he live many years longer and then be received into Heaven without feeling the pains of death. Come back again, old friend, and let us have another social chat.

(Moulton Advertiser [Lawrence County, AL] 26 Jul 1883)

"Colonel" Terrance Kelly lost an arm at Shilo, I believe it was. His store site in Moulton is now covered with a service station. His wife was famous for being a great beauty. I wish I could find more on Father Herman.
