William C. Reeder, of Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama, was 1st Lieut. of Company D, 9th Alabama Infantry. He was soon promoted to captain of the company, and subsequently was promoted to the rank of major and transferred to the 26th Alabama. He resigned on a surgeon's certificate due to a bad knee (not noted if this was as a result of a battle-related injury). He was then appointed as a civilian as a bonded agent in the quartermaster department at Huguenot Springs Hospital. The surgeon in charge then requested that he be appointed to do commissary duty at that post in addition to his role as a bonded agent. That request was approved.
