Walter, The source with this was in the Camp Chase microfilm which I believe you can find online if you're a computer whiz unlike me. I had to use the actual microfilm.

It did not specifically say the 88th Ohio guards were responsible for shooting Private Driscoll of the 3rd Ohio Infantry but as far as I know they were the majority of the guard units at Camp Chase during this time period.

I always forget to pull Private Driscoll's CMSR's when visiting the archives. I should think there probably should be some available information with his records.

It also did not specifically state he was a paroled prisoner but Chase was the parole camp and the 3rd Ohio Infantry reported there after leaving Camp Parole in Annapolis, Maryland. As you know the officers were not paroled after Streight's Raid only the enlisted soldiers.

I do remember reading there was a fight for the guards rifle before it was discharged killing Driscoll. This may have been the testimony from the guard that I read.

It did say that Federal barracks were burned down after the killing. That is as much as I can remember and Driscoll reason for leaving was to have a drink. There was a saloon directly across the street from Camp Chase although it did not mention specifically where Driscoll had planned on visiting.

Please let me know if and when you find the information in the Camp Chase Records.
