Brandon, I'll share one unpublished story about a soldier who was with Streight's Raid. This story is about paroled Union prisoners not yet formally exchanged. Camp Chase was also a parole camp. As you know the officers were kept as prisoners but the enlisted men were paroled and exchanged.

The 88th Ohio had not saw combat while the 3rd Ohio had saw much. There was resentment between the Camp Chase guards (88th Ohio) and the 3rd Ohio Infantry. The two regiments had little respect for each other. The mindset for some of the 88th Ohio may have been that they had not put up enough fight and just gave up to easy. Keep in mind they did not know the circumstances of the raid. The mindset for the 3rd Ohio may have been they were not really soldiers who had faced combat but rather took the easy way out and became prison guards for the Confederates at Camp Chase. In 1863 this would come to a ugly scene.

"Private Cornelius Driscoll was born in Mobile, Alabama and would be forever known as the only Yankee to be shot by Yankees at Camp Chase. Driscoll had moved to Cincinnati, Ohio prior to the war and joined Company G of the 3rd Ohio Infantry in 1861.

Driscoll had been with Colonel Abel Streight on his ill-fated raid across Alabama in 1863. Within a month of his capture by General Forrest he had been sent to Camp Chase to be re-organized with his regiment the 3rd OVI. The 3rd's officers however were still held at Libby Prison.

The day before the 3rd Ohio was to pull out of Camp Chase Private Driscoll insisted that he be allowed to leave Camp and go down the street for one last drink. The guards told him NO. Private Driscoll said they would have to shoot him if they wanted to stop him. Shortly a shot rang out and Private Driscoll lay dead.

When word spread what the 88th Ohio guards had done to Private Driscoll they burned down some of their barracks. For a short time Yankees were fighting Yankees at Camp Chase probably much to the amusement of the Confederate prisoners."
