If the man in the 6th Fla was for sure your GG Grandfather, then we have here three different men. The man in that unit has only one card in his CMSR dated July 1, 1862, stating that he was "absent on sick furlough". The period covered by that muster roll started on April 1, but an end date was not given, so a May 15th discharge, as George's information shows, could have taken place during that period. If the information on providing a substitute is correct, however, I question that this man could have been 60 years old, as he, not being subject to the draft, would not have had to furnish a substitute; not to mention that he would have been a very rare individual indeed to have even enlisted (or been accepted) at that age.

The man in Company B, 33rd Alabama enlisted at Skipperville in Dade County, AL, on April 6, 1863. He is present on all muster rolls after that until he is captured at Franklin, TN, on Nov 30, 1864. He is then sent on through Nashville to Louisville, KY, where, on Dec. 3 he is forwarded to Camp Douglas, Ill., arriving there on Dec. 5. He is discharged from Camp Douglas on June 18, 1865, his discharge showing that he is a resident of Dale County, Alabama. Also in the same company are James T Pippin and William Pippin.

Griffin Pippin in the 1st Florida Cavalry, enlisted on Jan 19, 1864, and was mustered into that unit on March 23. The next card shows that he has been serving as a blacksmith since April 1. A later card says that he was appointed blacksmith July 18, 1864. He mustered out at Tallahassee Nov. 17, 1865.
